At the request of Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Philharmonic State Orchestra under Kent Nagano played Beethoven's Ninth Symphony for international guests at the Hamburg G20 summit in July 2017.

On March 2nd 2009 Simone Young and the Philharmonics played Brahms' 2. Symphony at 50 places in Hamburg. Young conducted via camera from the tower of the St. Michaelis church.
